Yolanda is an art teacher and an accomplished watercolorist.  She has been practicing Sumi-e, the art of Chinese and Japanese Brush painting in East Asian Manor for Over 40 years and watercolor for over 30 years.  She learned this classical art from Chinese masters in Taiwan and the U.S.  She was a Sumi-e art instructor at the Columbia Art Center (CA) for over 10 years; the Chinese Language School in Columbia (CLSC) for over 5 years, and the Michaels Art Stores for over 3 years.  She has held workshops and demonstrations for a variety of organization such as the Laurel Art Guild, Asbury Methodist Village, the Social Security Administration, the Rockville Art League, Howard County Art Reach festival, Fairfax Art League, and the St. Paul School in Baltimore.

Yolanda is also an advanced watercolor artist, a Signature member-Watermedia Master, of the Baltimore Watercolor Society (BWS-WM).  Her watercolor focuses on special places in her life, e.g. Croatia, Dubrovnik, Slovenia, Kyoto, Taiwan, Hawaii, Charleston, Arizona, San Diego, Cancun, Santa Fe, Taos, and Albuquerque.  Inspired by the local cultures,   with an emphasis is on indigenous subjects like villages, flowers, plants, missions, houses, beaches, and people.

 

She served on the BWS Board of Directors two terms: Secretary from 2004 to 2007, followed by Workshop Chairperson from 2007-2010.  Yolanda is a Signature Member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society (since 2004) and the Potomac Valley Watercolorist (since 2009).  Her works exhibited in several juried Mid-Atlantic Regional Watercolor Show at the Strathmore Hall in Rockville and the Laurel Art Guild’s Annual Open Juried Art Exhibition.  She has also exhibited at local galleries in Maryland.  She has been a member in the past of the Laurel Art Guild (LAG), the Rockville Art League (RAL), and the Howard County Art Guild (HCAG.)

 

Education: University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, IL, College of Fine and Applied Arts.  She holds a B.S. in Fine Arts: Architecture and is a professional Architect in Maryland and District of Columbia.  Yolanda has take workshops from famous artists: Mark Mehaffy, Frank Webb, John Salminen, Ron Ranson, Frank Francese, Jean Uhl Spicer, Nicholas Simmons, Rachel Collins, Debbie Watson, Brenda Kidera, Barbara Nuss, Kathy Daywalt, Freda Lee McCann (Sumi-e) and Bob Coe.
